Alright, I know this is a good subject, Marijuana seeds! I have heard so many things from people since medical marijuana has been introduced. It seams everyone has there own idea’s. I guess if you have followed the site and the methods then you should know that I have some idea of what I am doing. People that have been in the business for a while know, it’s hard to be accurate looking at a seed! I’ve grown many varieties and the one thing I found out is you can never be 100% sure!
I guess we will get into the basic’s of telling if a seed is any good or not. A healthy seed will be hard with somewhat of a sheen on it. If you squish it on a hard surface with your thumb or index finger and it doesn’t crush, it’s probably a healthy seed. “You’ll get used to how hard to push after you go through a few good and bad seed’s” DO NOT DO THIS WITH SEEDS YOU PURCHASE!
It’s pretty hard to tell how old a seed is, I have saved seeds for several years in an airtight container and a few of them still grew but the majority, NOT! The only way to tell in this area is to germinate them and see. I am sure there are better ways to store than just in an airtight container but temperature is an issue too. I have never really looked into it but I would think a temperature of about 35-40 degrees would be a perfect temp. Sealed in a better air tight container!!! There is a place in the mountains of Switzerland I believe where they store all the many seeds of the world and it’s called the seed vault I believe.
I wonder if the have and Medusa or White Widow seeds??
I have found that small seeds tend to be more female and the larger ones more male. This applies to all strains. Generally the females grow at a slower pace than males also. Many sites will sell feminized seeds, this is basically a process of sorting the large ones from the small ones and taking the healthy, smallest seeds. People sell seeds that are specifically for indoor growing, this could be true since any plant, through generations will become more accustomed or acclimated to the weather and other conditions it’s grown in. So if someone is growing the same strain year after year indoors and seeding the same strain of plants it will get acclimatized and be a better stronger plant for indoors.
I guess the hardest thing would be trusting who I was getting seeds from! I think you can get 10 seed’s, feminized, taken from indoor grown plants and guaranteed fresh for anywhere from $70.00 to $200.00. The best thing is find someone you know that is involved in this and check with them. the only other source would be High Times Magazine, there are a lot of ads for seeds and many come from Western Europe. there are a lot of places popping up in Canada too! There are sites on the internet too, Hopefully I can post them later. Most of these site ship discretely!
Generally when you grow marijuana plants and if you just plant a bunch of seeds without knowing what they are or any type of sorting, you will get roughly a 50/50 rate of males to females. This would fluctuate of course, one group may be 60/30 one way or the other but for the general planning, plan on half the plants you plant will be males. MALES are BAD!!! FEMALES GOOD! So when you get started plan accordingly! I used to plant twice what I really wanted to grow and harvest.
The only way to get around all of this hassle is clones! Check out the page on clones, coming soon!
